Your Guide to SA 2010 : Cameroon

CAMEROON

FIFA Ranking:- 19

Nicknamed the LES LIONS meaning the INDOMITABLE LIONS. True to their nickname they have always been a dominant African contingent in the FIFA tournaments. They are a team who have seen the highs and lows in their qualification to the FIFA WORLD CUP 2010-SOUTH AFRICA. They were grouped with Morocco, Gabon and Togo. Before the qualifications they were favourites in their group but as the tourney progressed they were down and out. Losing to Togo in the first match and then drawing against the Moroccans the bookies didn't give them a chance. Soon they team found themselves in all sorts of problems after Otto Pfister was fired and Frenchman Paul Le Guen was appointed to be new coach. This was the turning point and they bagged 3 wins on trot but lost the last match against Morocco but still qualified as Togo beat Gabon 1-0.

The Manager

The Paris St. Germain Legend Paul Le Guen took over the Lions after Pfister was fired and instantly started to prove his worth as Cameroon bagged 3 wins on the trot at the African Nations Qualifications. This great tactician is known for his very good defensive organization and also known to make bold decisions. He stripped Cameroon Legend Rigobert Song of his captaincy and named Samuel Eto'o as the captain. A highly rated defender and his maegeraal tactics would be on the forefront during the WORLD CUP 2010.

MAN TO WATCH

The man to watch is the AFRICAN lion himself. Captain of the side Samuel Eto'o. He is prolific in front of goal and after playing in big and huge clubs like BARCELONA and INTER he would be rearing to pounce and prove what he is worth( more than gold). He has been an inspiration to all his team mates after taking the captains arm band.

FP Prediction
Placed in group E with likes of JAPAN , DENMARK & NETHERLANDS they are competing for the the second spot in the group. As it is predicted Netherlands would make it to the next stage its a 3 way battle royal between the others. On paper Cameroon are ranked above the Danes and Japan but on the pitch it would need a real spirited performance to beat the DANES. It would be a tight call as to who would take the 2nd place in this group but FP says Cameroon wont make it as there has been a negative air around the team after eto'o announced he was planning to quit the thought of playing in SOUTH AFRICA.
