FIFA Ranking : 45
This will only be the 3rd time Japan play in the FIFA World Cup finals. However they've come a long way since they made their debut in the 1998 World Cup in France as well as co-hosting the World Cup in 2002.
THE MANAGER
Takashi Okada is the current manager of the Japenese national side. Considered to be one of the country's all time great, he was Japan's manager before during 1997/98. When the previous coach was forced to get down from his position due to illness, the Japanese FA weren't a bit hesitant to call upon the talented Okada's services.

MAN TO WATCH
Japan's squad has several quality players. On any other occassion we would've gone with their most famous player ex-Celtic freekick specialist Shunshuke Nakamura but we'll go with Takayuki Morimoto. For those who haven't heard, he currently plays for Catania in the Italian Serie A and is one of the hot prospects. He's often been compared to a young Ronaldo (BRA) for his style of play. He's already scored 14 goals in 69 app for Catania
FP VERDICT
Japan have been grouped in a group E with Netherlands, Denmark and Cameroon. They have a tough task ahead of them in the group stages as Netherlands are favourites to top the group and the current Denmark side are on a hot run of form. It'll be a task too difficult for Japan to get through to the knockouts stages which makes this an interesting group.
